So you’re thinking about listing your home but don’t know if your home is ready?

Chances are when you sit down with your real estate advisor, they will walk you through the process step by step of getting your home ready for showings and open houses but just in case you wanted to get a head start here are a few of my tips:

1 Declutter, Declutter, Declutter

Decluttering your home is one of the most important steps to getting it show ready. No one wants to walk through a home that is packed with “stuff”. By decluttering the home and putting as much of your personal belongings into storage it gives a feeling of a less “used” home and most importantly a less messy home. This allows more room for buyers to envision their own furniture in the home and makes it look clean and tidy and gives the illusion of a larger space.

2 Get Your Paint Brush Out

A fresh coat of paint is an inexpensive way to brighten up your home, add that “fresh paint” smell and clean up any rooms that felt lived in. This small touch makes the home feel newer and clean.

Areas Of Focus:

• Kitchen – Updating the kitchen is always a good move.
• Bathrooms – Bathrooms tend to look grungy over time, fresh paint can get it a new-clean look.
• Damaged Areas – Go around with drywall patch and fix all those small holes, then add some paint and your good as new.

3 Hire Mr. Clean:

Give your home a good clean, especially if you have kids and pets or if the walls haven’t been painted in a while. Buyers don’t want to be looking a kids sticky fingerprints on the walls and windows. If your schedule does not allow you to do a full house clean, hire a maid to come in for a few days and make your home sparkle.

4 Curb Appeal is Important

Make sure the outside of your home looks inviting even if it’s a condo or a townhouse. First impressions really matter! If you’re home doesn’t look the best from the outside, try adding some personalized touches to make it more appealing like a welcoming entry mat, a colorful door or a personalized wreath.

5 Hide any existence of your loving pets!

Not everyone loves pets and even if they do they don’t necessarily want to see them or smell them when considering a new home. Leave your pets at day care for open houses and hide crates and litter boxes especially as a sign of respect for pregnant ladies.

6 Depersonalize your home but make it inviting :

Try to hide a few of those family photos and keep eclectic furniture/ belongings hidden. This will make it easier to sell as more buyers can imagine themselves in your home.

7 Clean out storage spaces and closets :

Many people throw all of their decluttering items in closets and storage spaces like their garage making it hard to see exactly how much room you have. Buyers look for homes with lots of storage and snoop through closets to see just how much space they would have. Making sure these areas are nice and tidy can really help the selling process.
